UN R17 concerns vehicle approval with regard to the strength of seats and their anchorages and to head restraints. Alongside M1 and N vehicles, it refers to certain seats in M2 and M3 vehicles not covered by R80. For M1 vehicles it also addresses seat-back design and protection against luggage moving forward in a frontal collision; seating-direction exceptions apply.
