UN R167 addresses approval of M2, M3, N2 and N3 vehicles with regard to direct vision. It aims to minimise blind spots as far as practicable, taking account of vehicle type and use. Direct vision means the area visible from the driver’s eye point without indirect-vision devices such as mirrors or cameras.

Common question
Does a camera image count as direct vision?
No. The definition excludes indirect-vision devices such as mirrors and cameras. It assesses the area the driver sees directly.
