UN R100 — Electric power train and battery safety

Examine electric power train safety, REESS requirements and installation in the vehicle.

What does it cover?

UN R100 addresses safety requirements for vehicles with an electric power train. Separate parts cover safety of the vehicle’s electric power train, the rechargeable electrical energy storage system (REESS) and installation of an approved REESS in a vehicle. Scope depends on vehicle category and intended use; batteries with different primary purposes are not treated alike.

Common question

Does R100 treat every battery in a vehicle the same way?

No. Part II excludes batteries whose primary purpose is starting the engine, lighting or powering other auxiliary systems. Consider the REESS function in the vehicle and the scope of the relevant part together.
